New Red Coding Ink Passes Tape, Alcohol and Scratch Testing

We recently ran our new red coding ink through three tests that printed codes on metal routinely face: tape peeling, alcohol wipes, and fingernail scratching. The code survived all three without lifting, fading, or abrasion. Production dates, batch numbers, and barcodes have to stay readable through exactly this kind of handling — and this one did.

The ink was printed onto a metal surface with a standard industrial CIJ printer, allowed to dry, and then put through each test in turn.

Test 1: Transparent tape adhesion

A strip of transparent adhesive tape was pressed firmly onto the printed code and peeled off, then the cycle was repeated several times. The code never lifted. No red ink transferred to the tape, and the marking stayed sharp after every round.

Test 2: Alcohol wipe resistance

An alcohol-soaked cotton pad was rubbed across the code again and again. After each pass, the cotton was checked for red staining. It stayed white throughout, and the code showed no fading or smearing — the kind of performance needed on production lines cleaned with alcohol-based sanitizers.

Test 3: Fingernail scratch resistance

The code was scratched hard with a fingernail, many times, across the full printed area. Even after that treatment it remained fully legible, with no visible abrasion or removal.

FAQ

Q: Is this red ink suitable for food packaging? It is formulated for industrial coding. If your application involves direct food contact or specific regulatory requirements, confirm compliance with our technical team first.

Q: Can it be used on glass or other non-porous surfaces? Metal is the substrate we have tested. The high-adhesion formula also works on many non-porous surfaces, but a trial on your own material is recommended.

Q: How long should the code dry before tape or alcohol testing? The ink dries quickly. For testing purposes, let the printed code cure for the time given in the technical data sheet first.

Q: Does the ink need pre-treatment on metal? Clean, dry, oil-free surfaces give the best adhesion. Most standard metals need no primer.

Q: Will it run in any inkjet printer? It is formulated for industrial CIJ printers. Check compatibility with your specific model before use.

MYK High-Visibility Blue CIJ Ink for Cable Coding Delivers Excellent Rub Resistance and Sharp Contrast

MYK has introduced a blue continuous inkjet (CIJ) ink developed for wire and cable marking. The formulation balances adhesion, color depth, and pigment load — three properties that tend to work against each other in CIJ inks.

Rub resistance is where this ink stands out. In fingertip rub tests, printed characters stayed sharp after multiple passes with finger pressure. That matters in cable production, where surfaces are handled constantly during manufacturing, coiling, and installation.

On common cable jacket colors, the blue code is easy to see. Yellow, orange, and light blue jackets give strong contrast right away. On purple and red, the mark reads as a dark code — still clearly legible, just through a different contrast mechanism. Edge definition held up across all tested colors, with characters staying readable.

Since it is a light-pigment ink, it runs on existing black-ink CIJ machines. Switching between black and blue coding does not require equipment changes. The light pigment also keeps ink circulation stable and jetting consistent in continuous systems.

For cable makers who need high-contrast, rub-resistant coding on light-to-medium colored jackets, this ink covers product traceability, batch coding, and general marking. It should also cut down on rework from prints that come out unreadable.

Indonesian Customer Selects Our CIJ Ink for PE Food Packaging After Rigorous Retort and Rub Tests

An Indonesian food packaging company recently visited our facility to source CIJ ink specifically for PE food packaging bags. Their requirements were clear: the printed codes on the film must be sharp, durable through high-temperature sterilization, and resistant to abrasion during storage and transport.

Our team recommended a food-grade CIJ ink and arranged an on-site demonstration. A production date and batch code were quickly printed onto a PE bag—crisp, clean, and completely free of satellite drops. The sample was then placed in a high-pressure steam sterilizer and put through a full 121°C retort cycle. When the bag was removed, the code remained dark, bold, and sharp, with no peeling or bleeding.

Immediately afterward, the customer performed a finger-rubbing test, followed by wiping with dry and wet cloths alternately. The code stayed fully legible, and the adhesion was completely unaffected.

The customer confirmed on the spot that the ink met all their requirements and placed a trial order. This satellite-free, retort-resistant, and abrasion-proof CIJ ink once again proved our technical strength in food packaging coding.
